
OTTAWA — August 28, 2026 — Canada is providing $5 million in humanitarian assistance to support emergency relief efforts following devastating flash floods and landslides along the Nepal-China border.Global Affairs Canada said the disaster has resulted in loss of life and widespread damage to homes, communities and infrastructure.
The full extent of the devastation is still emerging, with humanitarian agencies working to scale up assistance to people in urgent need.The funding was announced Friday by Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand and Secretary of State for International Development Randeep Sarai.
It will support the delivery of emergency food, shelter, clean water, sanitation and health services through United Nations agencies, Red Cross organizations and Canadian non-governmental partners.
Canada has also offered to deploy emergency relief supplies from its stockpiles through the Canadian Red Cross, should such assistance be requested.“Canada is focused on supporting Canadians and their families as this devastating situation unfolds,” Anand said, adding that Canadian consular teams are working with authorities and partners in Nepal and China to assist Canadians affected by the crisis.
